Long-Term Care
Introducing The Lodge.

While the status quo for nursing care may look like long hallways with shared rooms and central nurses’ stations, often mirroring the design of hospital, The Lodge at Stevenson Oaks will essentially be two small households under one roof, serving twelve residents in each household. This design provides each resident with a private room and private bathroom, as well as a ceiling mounted lift and track system to safely transfer residents with limited mobility.

Additionally, the space features a large living area with a hearth along with an open concept kitchen where the meals are prepared in the presence of the residents, allowing them to benefit from the sights, smells, and sounds of a busy kitchen. All important elements to stimulate appetite and add more joy to mealtimes. Then, meals are served family style with staff sitting down to enjoy the meal alongside the residents to support the warmth and connection associated with sharing a meal with friends.

Care On Your Terms

The design of The Lodge at Stevenson Oaks is a substantial departure from the institutional approach to elder care. This homelike environment is built on a philosophy of person-centered care that is often more fulfilling to the residents and staff than traditional nursing home models.

Within a small household, the operations are based around the preferences of the residents rather than the convenience of the staff. This model allows the staff to accommodate both the late sleeper and early rise or simply know how you like your eggs at breakfast. Spontaneity, a key component of life that builds joy and adds to the human experience, is better achieved in a small house structure than in an institutional structure.

Residents in these small households may decide to turn on a movie, change the menu for dinner from lasagna to hot dogs because someone has a craving, or just crank up the music and dance.
